ELEGOO Arduino Kit

My Arduino has made some new friends …

Elegoo Arduino Kit

I purchased the ELEGOO UNO R3 Project Complete Starter Kit on sale from Amazon. ELEGOO makes a range of hobby electronic kits in Shenzhen and I am having a good time with this one! Lots of components to get started, matched with well-written code and documentation.

It is a more passive learning experience than active … What I mean is that you are following instructions to wire components then loading code that has already been completed for you. Not creating stuff from scratch. A good way to start? Just get a feel for the parts and what is possible. Sort of like building a LEGO kit for the first time exactly like the instructions. Then the subconscious pattern-matching abilities slowly grow and novel arrangements arise.

The “Hello World” of electronics is a blinking LED. In the Arduino IDE this translates as …

void setup() {
  // initialize digital pin LED_BUILTIN as an output.
  pinMode(LED_BUILTIN, OUTPUT);
}

// the loop function runs over and over again forever
void loop() {
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, HIGH); // turn the LED on (HIGH is the voltage level)
  delay(2000); // wait for two seconds
  digitalWrite(LED_BUILTIN, LOW); // turn the LED off by making the voltage LOW
  delay(500);                       // wait for a half second
}

Happy hacking!
